The Southern Institute for Young Musicians (SIYMs) is an educational organization with a charge to ensure all student musicians, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to exceptional, world class, musical training.
At SIYMs, we strive to provide students well-rounded musical training. In addition to private lessons and large ensembles, we value students’ participation in smaller chamber ensembles. Chamber ensembles demand a unique skill set including collaboration, leadership, responsibility, intonation, synergy, and expression. The skills acquired in these ensembles manifest themselves in students' academic and professional lives. We also differentiate ourselves by valuing musical exposure from birth; thus, impacting students’ entire lives.
We believe that music education provides students an opportunity to learn about themselves, the community, and the world.
We believe, through structured high-quality music education, students become disciplined, intrinsically motivated, culturally sensitive, and compassionate life-long learners.
Why are we here?
We are here to unlock potential.
We are here to ignite passion.
We are here to support and inspire music educators.
We are here to enrich the cultural heritage of South Texas.
