Stephen Young- Executive Director, Orchestra Director, Chamber Music Coach, Cello Instructor

Cellist, Educator, and Arts Administrator ,Stephen Young started the Southern Institute for Young Musicians (SIYMs) in 2010 with the goal of providing young musicians a strong foundation in methods, theory, and artistry in both solo and ensemble environments. Participating in several youth ensembles himself, Mr. Young understands the transformative power of extracurricular performance experience. Such experiences allowed him to travel the world, fellowship with other musicians, and challenge his own ability.With over 20 years experience as a musician, Mr. Young displays a passion for making performing arts accessible to the community. He has been honored as Bartlett City School’s Teacher of the Month, received The University of Memphis Outstanding Musician full Scholarship, and performed as Principal Cellist at Summer Music on the Shannon in Limerick, Ireland. As a University of Memphis alumnus with a degree in Performing Arts Administration and Business Operations, Mr. Young is excited to put his training to work with San Antonio’s vibrant arts culture. Mr. Young is currently completing is Masters in Business Administration at the University of the Incarnate Word. In addition to executive duties, Mr. Young will serve as a Cello Instructor, Chamber Music Coach, Master Class Instructor, and String Orchestra Conductor.
