Mission

The Southern Institute for Young Musicians' (SIYMs) mission is to ensure all student musicians, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to exceptional, world class, well-rounded musical training.

What do we believe?

We believe that music education provides students an opportunity to learn about themselves, the community, and the world. Through structured high-quality music education, students become disciplined, intrinsically motivated, culturally sensitive, and compassionate life-long learners.

How are we dIFFERENT?

In addition to private lessons and large ensembles, we value students’ participation in smaller chamber ensembles. Chamber ensembles demand a unique skill set including collaboration, leadership, responsibility, intonation, synergy, and expression. The skills acquired in these ensembles continually manifest themselves throughout student’s academic and professional lives. We also differentiate ourselves by valuing musical exposure from birth; thus, impacting students’ entire lives.

wHAT DO WE ASPIRE TO BE?

We aspire to be the flagship music training program through which students commence on their pathway to college or careers.
