I founded the Southern Institute for Young Musicians because I believe music education provides students a means to relate to themselves and the world around them. As a young student cellist, music programs like SIYMs, shaped who I am today. Through participation in these programs, I gained confidence, accelerated in my musical technique, traveled the world, and formed lasting friendships.
I didn’t want to create just another place that gives private lessons. Leveraging my Teaching Certification and my Bachelors Degree in Performing Arts Administration, I wanted to create program that also focuses on experiences like chamber ensembles and master classes. I want to support homeschool students and partner with the local school districts through sectional coaching and performances. This is what makes SIYMs unique. There are future legends among us everywhere; therefore, I want to ensure ALL students, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to high quality musical training.
My Vision for SIYMs is to be the flagship music conservatory through which students commence on their pathway to college or careers. I hope, as a flagship program, we are able to build a strong alumni network that recalls their experiences in SIYMs as pivotal to their overall success.
