Introduction
From a young age, I have always had a deep connection with food, especially Indian cuisine. Growing up, I was surrounded by a rich tapestry of traditional recipes, nutritional values, and culinary knowledge passed down through generations from my parents to all the elders in my family and community. These early experiences sparked my fascination with the nutritional benefits and cultural significance of food, particularly the ingredients that form the heart of Indian dishes, such as sugar cane sugar, palm jaggery, rice, and lentils (daal). The more I learned, the more I realised how much I loved understanding the stories behind these ingredients and how they contribute to both the health of individuals and the traditions of Indian culture.
It wasn’t until I began working in my family’s business, which focuses on Indian food exports, that I truly understood the extent of my passion for the food industry. As I became involved in the various aspects of the business, from sourcing ingredients to ensuring the quality of products, I started to see food in a whole new light. Every step in the production process—whether it was selecting the best quality rice or ensuring the nutritional integrity of our food items—fascinated me. I became increasingly interested in the process of innovation, from the traditional methods of producing sugar to the modern-day demand for ready-to-eat meals, and how these fit into the evolving global market.
My work with the family business not only deepened my appreciation for the food industry but also ignited a curiosity about the potential for innovation within this field. The more I delved into the quality control and product development processes, the more I realised that my calling lies within this industry. I have always been driven by a desire to understand the details behind every food product, from its sourcing to its final form in a consumer's kitchen, and to contribute meaningfully to the growth and sustainability of the food sector.
When I moved to the UK to pursue my MSc in Management, this passion only grew stronger. I began to realise that my future is rooted in working towards a more sustainable, health-conscious food industry, particularly one that focuses on organic products. It was during this time that I discovered my true calling—an unwavering commitment to the food industry and a strong desire to contribute to its future. My exposure to new trends and advancements, coupled with my deep-seated passion for food, further reinforced my ambition to work in the organic food industry.
The path I am currently on is still evolving, as I continue to discover new opportunities for growth and learning. However, what remains constant is my love for the food industry and my dedication to making a positive impact in it. I am constantly inspired to innovate and bring sustainable, high-quality food products to global markets while remaining grounded in the traditions that have shaped my understanding of food. With a heart full of passion and a mind eager to explore new avenues, I am determined to make meaningful contributions to the food industry, all while continuously discovering more about myself along the way.
