Service Hours
Community gardens are communal in nature and all members are expected to contribute to the labor necessary for site maintenance and improvements. Along with required plot fees, SCGA’s success is absolutely dependent upon these contributions.
Hours requirement for 2026: 8 hours per year per plot (holder). Hours must be logged, and coordinated with and approved by a senior gardener.
A partial list of duties and tasks that count toward service hours include:
· Help with charity plots: plant, weed, water, harvest.
· Trim brush, branches and trees along both sides of the perimeter fence.
· Cut down any trees growing within the garden.
· Help maintain and repair tools and equipment.
· Check waterlines for leaks, and hose condition.
· Pick up and dispose of trash on the site.
Regular maintenance on a member’s garden space, on walkways/aisles between spaces, or on another member’s space DO NOT count toward the performance of service hours.
