Supports in Edmonton

There are many helpline and counselling supports across Edmonton! We have divided the supports in Edmonton into two categories; helplines with 24/7 access (all day, every day) and support groups. Support groups may take longer to access. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 911 for assistance.

IMMEDIATE HELP-LINE SUPPORT:

Open 24/7 to provide confidential and non-judgemental support. You can call 1-877-303-2642 (Toll free). They can provide the following services;

Open 24/7 to provide confidential and non-judgemental crisis intervention and resources. This distress line can be used by people in distress, and family or friends of a person in distress. You can call (780)-482-4357. It is okay to feel uncomfortable or unsafe talking on the phone. Instead, You can use their live-chat feature during their hours of operation (linked below). The distress line can provide the following services;

  • Suicide Prevention

  • Emotional Support

  • Crisis Intervention

  • Family Violence Prevention

  • Emergency Intervention and Response

Phone and chat/text support from 9 am to 9 pm. Their trained volunteers are educated on many topics regarding sexual assault and mental health. They are a great support and information resource.

  • Once you text or call, a trained crisis responder volunteer lets you know they are here to listen.

PROGRAMS ACROSS EDMONTON:

The Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers provides Mental Health support for immigrants.

  • The staff are well-trained to consider cultural perspectives.

  • They are aware of the immigration process, challenges imposed on Newcomers, and gender expectations.

  • This program is available to anyone born outside of Canada, immigrants, and refugees (regardless of time spent in Canada).

The EMCN services include;

  • FREE, Unlimited Counselling sessions in a confidential, non-judgemental and comfortable environment.

  • Adolescent, individual, couples, or family therapy sessions.

  • Provide resources to reduce social isolation.

  • Stress and/or anger management techniques.
