Conor gets Raphina's number by lying that he is in a band. This scene is shot in low angles of her (dominant) and high angles of Conor (subordinate). The Dolly Shot of Conor returning to Darren displays how excited he is prior to excitedly stating, 'we need to start a band'.
Whilst: Darren and Conor call to Eamonn's house and sign him up with Conor shouting out, 'I'm a
futurist.no nostalgia, no looking backwards, just forward.' We notice that Eamonn is clearly extremely talented and
we find out that his family life is a problem – his father is a drunk and in rehab.
The second recruit is Nigig and we discover there is racism present here as Darren states
'he'll be able to play somethin', he's black!' Shots of the lads making their way down the path towards Nigig's flat show the scene as a decaying block of flats in the inner city in Dublin.
Bassist Larry and drummer Garry, the remaining two members, are accosted when responding to a notice at school seeking musicians for a 'Futurist band'. The five meet initially at Eamonn's backyard.
