Cobh Harbour, Co. Cork, Miniature
The Sinking of the Lusitania, 1915
"RMS Lusitania was a British-registered ocean liner that was torpedoed by an Imperial German Navy U-boat during the First World War on 7 May 1915, about 11 nauticamiles (20 kilometres) off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland. The survivors were taken to Cobh Harbour, County Cork, then named Queenstown."
The Process
Cobh/ Queenstown harbour was built by a team of around 5 students, myself included. The process of making involved lazer cutting, research into the shopfronts of the harbour at the time, painting, inserting images onto the window frames, adding wear and tear/ aging the buildings appropriately. This miniature is made of a wooden base, with 2D paintings of shop fronts, as well as fabric for the awnings at the front of the shops.
My individual role was to lazer cut one of the buildings, pictured below, as well as painting the shop fronts and attaching some of the waterpipes to the edges and tops of the building fronts. i also was involved in adding 'moss' and aging the buildings by adding stains to them. I also researched the original pictures from the Lusitania disaster, and was able to add the original names of the shopfronts to the miniature.

First Year 'Howl' Project
During my first year in Design for Film I was involved in the making of a miniature apartment for the film project based on Allan Ginsberg's 1955 poem Howl. I made two doors, as well as handles for them and the cupboards in the kitchen. i also helped assemble some of the kitchen shelves, as well as painting and aging them up.
