Tommy Robinson
And the Sky News Interview
And the Sky News Interview
Tommy
Defamation is an area of law that provides a civil remedy when someone's - the defamer's - words end up causing harm to someone else's - the defamed person's - reputation or their livelihood.
Libel is a written or published defamatory statement, while slander is defamation that is spoken.
Jason Farrell of Sky News conducted a 1-hour and 15-minute interview with Tommy Robinson which was reduced to a 9-minute extract and broadcast by Sky News.
Tommy Robinson told Sky News he doesn’t care whether his message “incites fear” of Muslims as long as it “prevents children from getting raped.”

In that extract, Sky edited the film and deliberately 'put words into Tommy Robinson's mouth' with the pre-meditated intention of creating a false impression of Tommy's intentions.
What Sky did was to 'cut' Tommy's answers from one question and put it as an answer to another - newly recorded - question.
Sky thus created and then broadcast FAKE NEWS - which was a defamation - i.e: the act of communicating false statements about a person that injure the reputation of that person.
The manner in which they did this and speed suggests that it is something that is always on their minds and that they are well accomplished and practised at doing.
I am not sure that Skye viewers consider that Sky stoops to tricks like this to project the message they want viewers to receive, rather than transparent truthful 'news' or information.
BUT TOMMY IS NO FOOL.
Tommy - however - had secretly taped the interview - which is now on the internet so you can follow what I am saying if you wish - here Tommy Robinson

Their resulting broadcast contains no less than 6 constructed lies in the space of 6 minutes.
In the most damaging of their fraudulent proposals Jason Farrell, has written "Tommy Robinson has told Sky News " . . . he does not care whether his message "incites fear" of Muslims as long as it prevents children from getting raped . . . ".
What Jason Farrell says is untrue - a doctored video creating a lie - and is a defamation - in so far that a person, or many people, would be likely to consider that broad statement of purpose to be irresponsible - and think less of, or badly of, Tommy for saying it.
And if that can be shown to have occurred once or more then, because Tommy Robinson did not say that, Sky will have defamed him.
Whether it is actionable in court, however, is open to some debate that we will consider in a moment.
First though let us look at . . . .
HOW DID THIS OCCUR?
Tommy Robinson did not state that he went about doing or saying anything to create a fear of Muslims - nor anything like it.
This is how that fake reporting came to be:
In the interview he was invited to give to Sky, Tommy raised the topic and discussed with Jason Farrell that in Holland, where the same sort of wide-scale 'rape gang' outrages have been experienced as in the UK, but, they are doing something to protect children at a school level, nationwide.
In Holland many of the victims are girls younger than 15, most of the ‘groomers’ are under 30. Hardly any of the perpetrators are native Dutch, most of them are Moroccan, Turkish, Antillean or Roma (Gypsies))
Schools in the Netherlands provide their young pupils with access to a video which 'open their minds and eyes' to the dangers of being approached by intending 'groomers', warning them how such approaches are made, and by whom - and what to do if they are approached.
The UK HAS a similar educational video warning schoolgirls about Asian grooming gangs, which was commissioned for schools in 2007 but it is hardly ever, or in fact, never, used in the UK amid fears of appearing racist.
The 20-minute film, My Dangerous Loverboy, features an Asian man in his 20s grooming a younger white girl - lavishing her with gifts and getting her drunk before forcing her to have sex for money.
Jason Farrell proposed to Tommy that to make use of such a video might demonise the Muslim community - causing a fear of Muslim men.
In the context of the Netherlands video - and nothing else - Tommy replied: " . . . . To be honest with you, I don't care if IT INCITES fear as long as it educates the children and prevents them from being raped. . . . "
Sky took that remark out of context as the heading of the transcript of the interview article which read
" . . . I don't care if I incite fear of Muslims . . . . "
Putting these words falsely into Tommy Robinson's mouth had no purpose - other than as a deliberate act - by which Sky News fabricated a statement and then falsely attributed it to Tommy Robinson solely in order to make him 'sound bad' - or reckless - and thus reduce his reputation.
To make it 'hard-hitting' FAKE NEWS Sky had to create, and splice into the video interview Jason Farrell asking as if he were talking to Tommy " . . Do you not realise that what you go around saying could make people fear Muslims . . "
If Tommy had truly replied ". . . . I don't care if I incite fear of Muslims . . ." as Sky alleges, then he would be in conflict with what he has constantly said - that he holds nothing against the vast majority of, law-abiding and peaceful, Muslims or anyone else.
Only those Muslims who refuse to integrate into the country they now live in, who follow extreme Islam practices and rely on Islamic ideology to perform acts that are illegal in Great Britain and hurt and damage its people.
Those are only those Muslims who go out of their way to follow, in the literal form, the barbaric practices contained in the Qur'an and other Muslim teachings.
But, despite all of their lies and fabrications Sky's lawyers will have told them that Tommy Robinson will stand little chance of successfully bringing a court action for damages in the UK.
Because the onus falls upon Tommy to prove that the defamation had an effect. And that the (Sky News) defamer's - words end up causing harm to - the defamed's - Tommy Robinson's - reputation or his livelihood.
They would probably seek to say that Tommy's reputation was already reduced in the eyes of their viewers - as a consequence of the (FAKE) news and publicity about him in the preceding years - and his prison sentences.
But would they be right? Would they get away with that cynical ploy?
AS TO TOMMY'S PAST
Tommy Robinson is currently very successfully 'waking up' the UK to activities that have been deliberately covered up.
Millions of people now realise something they previously did not.
He has gained more admiration and more support - for his bravery in doing this - than you or I could gain in ten lifetimes.
Tommy has a past - much of which is as a consequence of the campaign within government and the establishment to 'close him down'.
Some are to do with being a bit of a lad in his youth - and being fast to react to someone physically attacking him, and too fierce in his own physical response.
Some are to do with taking the blame for other members of his family, to protect them.
Everyone knows he has 'a history'. Everyone one also knows that if a young middle-class man did the things he had done they would be cautioned, or acquitted or if not acquitted then be sentenced to community service.
To some extent that past is what makes him the man who can and will take this on. He is rough around the edges - but it can be said - as both wars have proved - that it fire has to be fought with fire.
No one can doubt other than that if he had been born a couple of generations earlier what Tommy Robinson is - the form of an actual 'Tommy' - would have been kicking three colours of hell out of the guys in the opposite trench.
Tommy is made of metal - he has no need to lie tells the truth - and unlike so many of our politicians is not frightened of it - is not racist - is not a Nazi - nor even far right.
He is admirable and it would not matter - to those who value his message, and nor should it matter to anyone in reality - if Tommy Robinson was Rasputin re-born.
But it would matter if it were thought that his interest was in making ALL MUSLIMS suffer and live in fear. That is the lie that Sky have deliberately concocted.
And so Sky need to be taken to task and shown for what they are. Liars when they want or chose to be. Viewers should know that.
Someone will have to decide whether Tommy should take court action to splash the issue across the (worlds) front pages - or - take the lower risk route - and simply do it through Social media - where a lot of figures have already and powerfully hit out at Sky.
