Taylor wrote this song about her struggle in the music industry when she was young–being rejected by RCA Records because of her age and starting as the first artist on Big Machine Records with Scott Borchetta. She wasn’t even sure she was gonna even make it in the industry because she was part of a brand new label–and she ended up blowing up by her 2nd album Fearless

It tells the story of a relationship Taylor has inadvertently ruined and one that she wants back. It’s an extremely dramatic case in which she and her lover have fought, screamed, and miscommunicated with each other.
