Thank you for signing up with Simple Opt Out Compliance. We are here to take the pain out of managing DSARs (Data Subject Access Requests) that impact data businesses operating in California, Vermont, European Union or UK jurisdictions.
With Simple Opt Out Compliance you create a task to monitor each email address that receives DSAR emails from individuals or aggregators. A task will automatically extract information from the incoming emails, log that information in a database, and send a response to the sender confirming receipt. A task can even be set up to push the data to an endpoint on your website so you can manage deletion requests seamlessly.
Step 1. On the menu bar, click the text "Response Task Wizard" (Shown Below)
Step 2. Choose between using a current email address, or one we set up for you, on our email domain.
If you select your own email address and do not use GMAIL for your email then you will need to know some details about your email provider settings to continue the set up process.
If you use GMAIL, you can login with your GMAIL account for a faster set up (there are limitations with using GMAIL - visit our GMAIL FAQ page for more info). Either way the choice is yours.
If you answer yes to one of the following questions, you should probably let the app create an email address on our domain:
Your firm receives over 2000 requests per day
Your firm has not set up your IMAP server (for security reasons)
You cannot find out (easily) your webmail provider server settings.
Step 3. If you select "Create simpleoptoutcompliance" address you will be shown the email address that will be monitored: This can be editted but you will not be able to proceed to Step 4 if the address exists already (this is unlikely).
Step 4. Once you have made your selection click Next> to go to the next set up step. In this step you specify how often you want to run this service (check and respond to emails) as well as the Subject Text the service will monitor and respond to. We prepopulate the name of the task, but you can change it if needed.
If you are using your own email address (and selected that option on the previous step) you now have the option to choose GMAIL. Now click Next>.
Go to Step 5a if you selected "Create simpleoptoutcompliance" email. Go to Step 5b if you want to read more about setting up GMAIL access, alternatively go to Step 5c to set up access to another hosted email service.
Step 5a. Select A Template. This step allows you to select a response template. We have two currently and they are very similar (CCPA Standard and GDPR). This view also displays the email address we will monitor. If you have chosen to use one of our email addresses just click Next> and jump ahead to Step 6.
Step 5b-i. (GMAIL) If you selected "Use Gmail" at Step 4 you will have been shown the account selection screen and then the approval screen. Select the account and you will be automatically shown the approval form. Click Allow.
Step 5b-ii. (GMAIL) You will be shown the template screen. This is prepopulated, so you just need to click Next>. Now jump to step 6.
Step 5c. (Use your own non-GMAIL email account): If you want to use your own email address and it is not a GMAIL account then you will need to complete this form with your login password and SMTP/IMAP server details. If you are hesitant about this, then click <- Mail Wizard Stage One and choose the option for us to provide an email addresses. Otherwise, fill out the form and click Next>
Step 6. Read our Terms and Conditions (please!) and click Accept. You can also read them here.
Step 7. Select Plan. We offer multiple plans depending on the volume of inbound requests you receive. Select the plan most appropriate for your firm. Click Buy and you will be routed to Stripe to complete payment.
The plans can be upgraded or downgraded mid-way through the month. If you have not hit your usage cap for that month then you will receive a refund against the plan you change to. The refund will be based on the proration of days remaining. For example if you have 10 days remaining of your current plan and have not hit the usage limit, you will receive a refund of (10/30) toward the cost of the plan you switch to.
Step 8. Once payment is complete you will be shown the confirmation screen. Make sure to take note of the email address and then click the <- Dashboard link to take you to your dashboard of tasks.
Step 9. Success! You have created your first task and here it is in the dashboard. To learn more about the information presented in this dashboard visit Task Manager.
