Early-Career Professionals & Investigators Consortium
Empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals through clinical audit, quality improvement and implementation science.
What is EPIC?
EPIC (Early-Career Professionals & Investigators Consortium) is a national student led-initiative which aims to support medical students in developing academic research and quality improvement skills. By combining hands-on workshops, peer mentoring and expert-led teaching, EPIC equips participants with the practical skills and confidence required to design and deliver projects that improve patient care.

Foundations of Clinical Audit & Quality Improvement
📅 Saturday, 26 September 2026
🕧 08:30–17:00
Day 1 of EPIC 2026 introduces undergraduate healthcare students to the fundamentals of clinical audit and quality improvement (QI). Through keynote talks, interactive workshops, simulation-based learning, and student presentations, delegates will gain practical insight into how healthcare professionals identify opportunities for improvement and deliver safer, higher-quality patient care. Participants will explore the differences between clinical audit and QI, learn the key stages involved in planning and conducting projects, and develop skills in data collection, analysis, and presenting findings. The programme also provides opportunities to hear from experienced clinicians, receive feedback from expert judges, and network with peers who share an interest in improving healthcare. Whether you are completely new to audit and QI or looking to build on previous experience, Day1 will provide the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to begin contributing to quality improvement initiatives throughout medical school and beyond.
Day 2:
Implementation Science & Inclusive Research
📅 Saturday, 24 October 2026
🕧 08:30–17:00
Day 2 of EPIC 2026 focuses on implementation science and inclusive research, equipping undergraduate and postgraduate students with the knowledge and skills to bridge the gap between evidence and clinical practice. Through keynote lectures, practical workshops and collaborative discussions delegates will explore how research can be translated into meaningful improvements in patient care. The programme examines the barriers that prevent evidence-based interventions from being successfully adopted, alongside strategies for designing, implementing, and evaluating sustainable healthcare improvements. Day 2 provides an inspiring environment to develop practical skills, network, and gain a deeper understanding of how research can create lasting improvements in healthcare systems.
