There is a growing recognition that medical education must go beyond knowledge delivery to adequately prepare students for clinical practice. While theoretical learning forms a foundation, skills like leadership, teamwork, and communication are increasingly acknowledged as essential for delivering effective patient care. However, opportunities to develop these skills in structured, practical ways remain limited. The EMPOWEReD initiative—Empowering Medical Professionals through Peer-led, Online, Work-based Education for Real-world Development—addresses this gap by equipping students with the skills they need to transition confidently into practice.
