Tinkercad

Tinkercad is a 3D modelling CAD (Computer Aided Design) tool that I use to create 3D models. I first learnt how to use Tinkercad in school when we started making designs for WW2 air raid shelters. I built an underground station, but I later built an Anderson shelter and a Morrison shelter. After that I started tinkering in class and at home. Once I'd started modelling I found I really liked it.

Tinkercad is a kids version of the Fusion 360 modelling app used by civil engineers, 3D modellers, technicians, electricians, product designers and architects, and that's just one modelling app, there are many other similar applications.

Slicers

Slicers are a type of app that turns the 3D models that I create on Tinkercad into ready-to-print G-code. If you simplify it, it's just what it says on the can, it slices a 3D model in to layers which get converted into G-code, as its officially called. The printer takes in this G.code, which provides the intructions on how to then print the model.

Above, I have created a project workflow showing how I go from design through to slicer, to getting the file to send to my 3D printer. I created the workflow using a free website called Lucid that is used for making charts.

3D PRINTER

3D printers are a type of machine first created in 1983 by American engineer Chuck Hull. The machine works by placing down layers of plastic on a hot plate called the build plate. A 3D printer can't print anything, you have to produce a design, send it through a slicer and then you can print it.

This is my 3D printer. It is a Creality Ender 3 V3 SE.

Google Sites

Google sites is a non-AI generated, free website builder. This is why I chose it to create Silver Minnow Studios. It’s simple to learn and easy to master. You can create pages and import and embed text, files, photos and video. But it’s not just small creators like me that use Google Sites, some big websites started on Google Sites likeThe Silph Road (Pokémon GO Community), which is a big website now but early in its creation it was built on Google Sites.
