Rubber Rush is being developed by the GGDrU (Municipal Public Health Service of Utrecht) to raise awareness around safe sex, with a focus on condoms and contraception.
I worked as a freelancer, designing the playing cards for the game's pilot.
The first part of the game has players lay down the cards in the correct order, as quickly as possible. Each card represents a step in the process of using a condom. My challenge was to create fun designs that can be understood at a quick glance.
Buy it
Carry it with you
Do you want this too?
Put it on
Have sex
Throw it away

When a player loses a round, they have to pick a conversation card and answer it. This aims to open up the conversation about safe sex.
When I first applied for the position, the team asked me to provide them with a proof of concept for two of the playing cards. I was given a lot of freedom for the designs. The goal was to make the visual style fun, but genuine.
Though the composition and the photo elements stayed the same, the overall style of the cards changed quite a bit as I gained a better understanding of the team's vision according to their feedback.
