Javier García Nafría, PI

I was born in Madrid and studied at the University of Alcalá de Henares and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Biochemistry, 2007). For my PhD I moved to the York Structural Biology Laboratory (York, UK). I did two post-dcotral stays at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK) where I studied neuronal membrane proteins by combining biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology. My post-doctoral work revealed the architecture of the heteromeric AMPA receptors (Science, 2016) and the human serotonin 5-HT1B receptor bound to a G-heterotrimer of the Go type (Nature, 2018). During this time I also had industrial collaborations with MRC-T, MedImmune (AstraZeneca) and Sosei Heptares Therapeutics . In 2019 I moved to the Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of complex systems (BIFI, Universidad de Zaragoza) with a Jóvenes Investigadores project and a Ramón y Cajal contract. Our research group focuses on understanding signal transduction in neuronal cells and the mechanisms of current therapeutics against CNS disorders.

Andrés M. Gonzalez Ramírez

Post-doctoral researcher

Andrés did a structural biology PhD at the BIFI institute. He is now focused on the application of cryo-electron microscopy to the study of orphan receptors.
