About School

IIS Concetto Marchesi provides for three courses of education: Secondary school focus on Humanities ( like Grammar School in UK), Second level College of Science, Technical-Chemical-Environemntal.

Now the school has got 130 teachers, 76 classes with more than 1700 students who come from a big area of Catania hinterland and towns round the Volcano Etna. The school provides for the students’ transport with public or private means of transport that make the school easily reachable. The school “ Concetto Marchesi” is always active to propose efficient and educational paths with curricular and extra-curricular activities. The school firstly considers the students’, families’ and district needs.The High school “ Concetto Marchesi” has got a teachers’ team regarding inclusion for S.E.N. students and a self-assessment team.

Amongst the 3 education courses there is the Technical Institute specialised in the fileds of Chemistry, Science, entreprenership and environment. Apart from curricular subjects, the Technical proposes many activities regarding the environment such as Recycle, 0 waste, Clean energy,Environmental Sustainability, Radioactivity and Reconsumer. Start ups, fostered by English language courses and Ict skills. Moreover the school is engaged in activities and courses about the Environmental Engineering, and a detailed study on Chemistry about the Circular Economy that consists in the preparation of a catalyst by food scraps as pomace oil or almond shells or Etna volcano Ashes. It is active in the spread of a organic mentality amongts young population for the recycle. At school there are specific reclycing bins for paper, plastic, wet waste, glass and aluminium. At school we have some green days during theschool year and we have got two vegetable gardens where only organic plants are cultivated.

The Profile of the learners,

Learners are selected according their age, from 15 to 17, their partecipation in the specific activities of this application, according meritocratic criteria and their strong motivation in taking part into an European project. Selected students must have a good level of language and available to share and disseminate their experiences to their school mates. Usually they are chosen attending the 3rd year so they can take part in the project for its all duration. As The school Concetto Marchesi always does, some SEN students with fewer opportunities will be included amongst the learners participants with the 30%.

Selected students are required to prepare products as e/book, padlet, prezi and write report in the blog page of the project and in the forum page of the eTwinning project. Students are always invited to take part in the selection of a contest for the project logo, there will be a specific announcement in the school web page so they are immediately involved in the Erasmus.
