Leading SME: Hate
Fixed-wing pilots are qualified to operate fixed-wing aircraft in an offensive and transport capacity. They may be required to fly air-to-air or air-to-ground support, transport and airdrop supplies via parachute, or serve as jumpmasters for HAHO and HALO insertions via C-130.
The certification will be accomplished in 4 phases.
Candidate will be asked a series of questions to check that he indeed understands important aspects of a Fixed Wing Pilot.
Candidate must correctly answer 3 out of 4 questions to pass. GO/NO GO
Daytime Takeoff/Landings: Candidate must successfully complete 3 take off and landings during the day. Touch and Go’s are acceptable for take off/landings.
Candidate must accomplish all take off and landings without damaging the aircraft. GO/NO GO.
Demonstrate Proficiency with Gun Run: Majority of rounds must hit within 50 meters of the target. 2 attempts MAX
Demonstrate Proficiency with GBU 12: Bomb must hit within 15 meters of the target. 2 attempts MAX
Candidate must accomplish all surface attacks within parameters within the maximum amount of attempts per weapon system. GO/NO GO
Practical Exercise will consist of a JTAC on the ground talking the aircrew on to a target and then passing a 9 line for prosecution.
Demonstrate Proficiency with targeting pod: JTAC will establish a ROZ, clear the aircraft in, and pass a 10 digit grid to the candidate and they must get on target in under 2 mins. 2 attempts MAX.
Demonstrate Proficiency in Close Air Support: JTAC will pass an abbreviated 9 line on the target they previously talked the student on to. Candidates have 3 mins to prosecute the target upon being given the “Good Read Back” call by the JTAC. Candidate must read back target location, remarks/restrictions, adhere to restrictions, call “In” for clearance, and successfully destroy the target. 2 attempts MAX.
Utilize Counter Measures: Ground personnel will utilize a MANPAD to fire a single Surface to Air Missile at the candidate pilot. They must successfully utilize countermeasures and evasive maneuvers.
Candidate must accomplish all attacks within parameters. GO/NO GO.
*If a student grades a “NO GO” in any category the certification is over. The candidate may request to continue the scenario as a WORKSHOP only.
