FAQ

This is a page for Frequently Asked Questions regarding Luna's Project64.

Q: What input plugin should I use?

A: You can follow this sequence of steps:

After making one of these choices:

Q: I'm using NRage's Input, and Mario won't run at full speed when holding diagonals.

A: Go to Options --> Input Settings, and disable "Real N64 Range".

It's recommended that you do this regardless.

Q: I opened a romhack, and the gameplay runs at a faster speed than it's supposed to. How do I fix this?

A: Go to Options --> Configuration, click "Config: <Game name here>", and set VI Refresh Rate to 1500.
If this happens to your own hack, it's because you used the frameskip patch. I would advise against it for many reasons.

Q: I have a really old / low-end computer and I'm experiencing significant lag. What should I do?

A: Go to Options --> Graphics Settings, click the "ANGLE" tab, and try changing the renderer between the 3 available options.

Experimenting with the 3 renderers is a good idea even if you aren't experiencing lag, as they may feel slightly different to eachother and you may prefer one over the others.

If neither of them help with improving performance:

Go to Options --> Configuration, click Plugins, then set "Video (graphics) plugin" to Jabo's Direct3D8 v1.6.1.
Note that this will cause significant graphical issues in a lot of games.

Also note that this will not improve performance in any way on higher end hardware, so using Jabo will be counterproductive in that case.

Q: I'm noticing graphical issues that other people don't seem to have in a newer SM64 romhack / a game that isn't SM64, or alternatively:
Q: A romhack is telling me to use ParaLLEl. What should I do?

A: Go to Options --> Graphics Settings, click the "Frame buffer" tab, and enable "Frame buffer emulation".
Make sure you disable that after you're done playing the game, or you will run into issues with other romhacks.

If you did that and the issues persist:

Go to Options --> Configuration, click the "+" next to "Config: <Game name here>", and click "Plugins".
Set "Video (graphics) plugin" to LINK's ParaLLEl-RDP. set "RSP (Reality Signal Processor) plugin" to ParaLLEl RSP Plugin, and disable "Graphics HLE".

If the game looks pixelated, go to Options --> Graphics Settings, increase the upscaling level, and optionally enable "enable texrects upscaling", but note that these may harm performance.

ParaLLEl plugins are only viable to use on higher end hardware, so if you're noticing significant lag or the emulator isn't running at all, you may consider switching back to the first method and accepting the graphical issues.

Q: How do I play on widescreen / 16:9 aspect ratio?

A: Go to Options --> Graphics Settings, set either Fullscreen or Windowed resolution to something with 16:9 aspect ratio depending on how you play (you may have to type it manually in the case of Windowed), and set Aspect Ratio to "Try to adjust game to fit".

Note that some games may have graphical issues on the edges of the screen, as most games are designed to be played on 4:3.

Q: I have a question that isn't listed here.
