Hi! My name is Tolga Kaya. I will be your instructor for the Engineering Explorations course (and perhaps some other courses!). I am an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering of Sacred Heart University. I am also the Director of our Engineering programs.
I received my undergraduate degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in Turkey. I obtained my masters and doctorate degrees from the same university in Electronics Engineering and worked at Yale University for a total of 5 years. Then I moved to Michigan to teach and research at Central Michigan University. I joined SHU in Fall 2017.
I am married to Carolyn who is from the Philippines and I am originally from Turkey (we met at Yale University while taking tango lessons, how romantic!). My step son, Edward, is 29 years old and works in California as a biologist. Our daughter, Ela, is 7 years old and in 2nd grade now.
Besides running after our little one, I love to cook! I am also a triathlete: I got injured (calf strain) in the fall but am looking forward to getting back to the olympic and potentially half iron man distances this year.
