Each month, one cadet from each company is recognized by the JROTC Staff for their display of leadership skills and academic excellence. These cadets are then invited to an interview conducted by the JROTC Battalion Commander, Command Sergeant Major, and Executive Officer. The highest scoring cadet is named Smithfield High School JROTC Cadet of the Month.

September's JROTC Cadet of the Month is Ashley Breland! Cadet Breland is a sophomore as well as a Let 2 in Delta Company. JROTC is a favorable class for her. She likes to socialize with and work with other cadets. She likes being a part of Delta Company, and she has learned a variety of skills from her squad leader, Cadet Williams. She is a recognizable cadet for her behavior in and outside of the program. She academically excels while conducting herself in a well-fashioned manner of citizenship.
