Each month, one cadet from each company is recognized by the JROTC Staff for their display of leadership skills and academic excellence. These cadets are then invited to an interview conducted by the JROTC Battalion Commander, Command Sergeant Major, and Executive Officer. The highest scoring cadet is named Smithfield High School JROTC Cadet of the Month.Â

December's JROTC Cadet of the Month is Colby Syring! Cadet Syring is a Freshman, Drill team member, as well as a Let 1 in Alpha Company. He thinks JROTC is a lot of fun, and can teach you things you might not have known before. His favorite part of the class is drill, "It's fascinating watching so many people all work together and sound like 1", said Cadet Syring.
