Official Biography for Peter J. Badoian

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Peter J. Badoian serves as the JROTC Senior Army Instructor for Smithfield High School, Smithfield, VA. He assumed this position on July 5th, 2012 after instructing for one year at Surry County High School.

Originally from Sharon, Massachusetts he graduated and received his Regular Army commission from the United States Military Academy at West Point , NY in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Management, he completed the Infantry Officer's Basic Course and Ranger School at Fort Benning, GA.

LTC Badoian's assignments have included TOW platoon Leader, Anti-Tank Platoon Leader, and Combat Support Company Executive officer for 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry

Regiment at Fort Lewis Washington; Battalion S4, Assistant Battalion S3, Task Force S4, and D Company Commander for 2nd Battlion, 15th Infantry Regiment at Schweinfurt, Germany; Combat Sample Generator Operations Research Systems Analyst for the Center for Army Analysis in Bethesda, MD.; Training Officer, 2nd Brigade, 75th Infantry Regiment and (after being career field designated as an Operations Research Systems Analyst) Marketing Officer, 5th Brigade, United States Army Recruiting Command in San Antonio, TX. Force Protection Observer/Trainer, Deployable Training Branch, Training Group, Joint Warfighting Center, J7 Training, United States Joint Forces Command, Suffolk, VA, and Strategic Plans and Operations Officer for the United States Army Accessions Command (USAAC) at Ft Monroe , VA.

During his tour of duty with 2nd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment in Germany, LTC Badoian in 1994 served as the Task Force S4 for Operation ABLE SENTRY in Macedonia and in 1996 he commanded his Bradley Fighting Vehicle Company and Camp Emerald City during Operation JOINT ENDEAVOR in Bosnia-Herzegovina with 1st Armored Division.

During his tour with Joint Forces Command LTC Badoian traveled world wide including places such as Afghanistan, Kuwait, Djoubouti, and Qatar on multiple occasions to assist Combatant Command and Joint Task Force staffs in improving their staff processes and procedures.

LTC Badoian is a graduate from the Army's Infantry Officer's Basic and Advance Courses, the Combined Arms Staff Services School, the Command and General Staff College, the Joint Forces Staff College, Airborne School and Ranger School. He also graduated with distinction from Saint Mary's University, San Antonio with a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering with a concentration in Operations Research.

1st Sergeant (Ret.) Marvin Hunter (AI)

Official Biography for Marvin Hinter


First Sergeant (Retired) Marvin Hunter serves as the JROTC Army Instructor for Smithfield High School, Smithfield, VA. He assumed this position in August 2014 after working in the private sector and as a staff member for the Virginia Commonwealth Youth Challenge Academy.


A native of Sumter, South Carolina, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1985 and reported to One Station Unit Training (OSUT) Ft. Knox, Kentucky as an Armor Crewman. His assignments have included Tank Gunner, 4th Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment 3rd Armored Division, Germany; and 3rd Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Ft. Riley, Kansas. While assigned to Ft. Riley, 1SG Hunter auditioned for and was accepted into the 1st Infantry Division Band as a Saxophone Player. During his tour with the 1st Infantry Division Band, he was accepted for formal military music training at the Armed Forces School of Music, Norfolk, VA.


Upon graduating the Basic Music Course, his assignments have included Saxophonist and Drum Major, 82nd Airborne Division Band, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Drum Major and Squad Leader, 25th Infantry Division Band, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Following his tour in Hawaii, 1SG Hunter was accepted for instructor duty at the School of Music where he served as Army Drill Band Instructor, Rehearsal Conductor, and Senior Small Group Leader, Army Band Noncommissioned Officer’s Academy. Additional assignments have included Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Army Band Directorate of Training and Doctrine, Virginia Beach, VA and the Army Materiel Command (AMC) Band, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

During his tour with the 82nd Airborne Division, 1SG Hunter deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He also deployed with the Army Materiel Command in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

1SG Hunter’s military education and training include the First Sergeant’s Course, Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course; Airborne School, Jumpmaster School and the Air Assault Course. 1SG Hunter holds an Associates of Arts Degree from St. Leo University and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Excelsior College.
