In LIS 770, Management of Libraries and Information Centers, we were asked to evaluate a strategic plan from a local library. I chose Skokie Public Library because I had heard they were providing innovative solutions to the issues in their community, upholding the professional value of service. I wanted to see in more detail the role their strategic plan played in developing those opportunities for the community and what principles of librarianship played a part.
In LIS 884, Big Data and Competitive Intelligence, we were asked to collect massive amounts of data from ALA's Job List. The objective was to discover what specific technology skills were required for librarian positions, based on the job postings. This paper showcased that libraries across the country are integrating new technology at an amazing rate, which results in the vast technological skills needed for successful work in the field.
In LIS 770, Management of Libraries and Information Centers, we were asked to focus on an issue that is currently faced by the library profession. I chose to study the issue of diversity and inclusion which is challenging the entirety of the profession. In this paper I examined the current status of these issues in collection development, program services, staffing and audience and then made suggestions for ways to improve both inclusion and diversity for the stronger future of libraries.
