In LIS 889, Digital Curation, we were asked to create a promotional flyer that could be used to attract library workers to a workshop. This was an interesting challenge because the workshop subject was data, which is often perceived as boring. Creating a flyer that was eye catching, engaging, and informational gave me a lot of insight into the value of strong promotional media.
In LIS 701, Introduction to Library and Information Science, we examined the future of advocacy for the public library industry. What I found most interesting is that while the focus and direction of libraries will change in the future, relationship building and making individual connections in order to showcase the value of libraries remains at the heart of advocacy work.
At the Naperville Public Library I planned and implemented the Adult & Teen Programming for our massive Harry Potter Day. This included leading a team of my peers from multiple departments across the organization located in three buildings. Ensuring everyone's ideas and opinions where heard, while also making sure the objectives of the event were met were my main challenges. It was a great success and learning experience, with over 8,000 people in attendance.
