Event Theme

The theme for this event is ma (間).

Ma has many meanings and nuances some of which are listed below. It penetrates every aspect of shintaido practice as well as our human lives. Whenever we face an obstacle, ma can become a key to transform the situation by allowing us to open up to a new perspective. This helps us to go beyond conflict toward understanding and unity.

The event is open to everyone, whether a beginner or with many years experience. We will focus on how shintaido and bojustu can give us the opportunity to explore ma with one another. In Shintaido, we have a term, ‘愛空間/ ai-kukan’, which means ‘space of love’. We hope we can create this together by exploring ma sincerely through various practices. 

Some meanings of ma:

• the space in relationships between people

• a pause, full of meaning between movement or speech

• an interval, crack, or physical space between objects

• space and time when we experience life

• balance between things

• luck

• silence and lack in the face of loudness and excess

• relationship between ki and ki

We would like to invite you to participate in this first ESC event in Germany and also after Covid forced us to take a break for 5 years. This will be a great opportunity to share our expressions and insights and to cooperate on the creation of a good "MA".
