Teaching is not just a profession, it is a lifetime gratitude and dignity that a person can carry. When we hear the word teacher, we tend to utter words such as role model, respected, and well-refined people. We tend to say that a teacher doesn’t make mistakes because he/she Is the one who educates and instill values. We set the standards for them too high and tend to forget that teachers are also human being. A person who has rights and freedom to express themselves and even make a mistake.
As an educator in the making, I can say that teaching is indeed a challenging profession a person would pursue. The fact that it is a profession that premises all of the professions. You cannot be a doctor, an architect, nurse, engineer, and lawyer without a teacher. As I embark my journey in this path, I got plenty of realizations as well as reflections. Sometimes I ponder if is this my true calling? Is this where I belong? Am I in the right path? These are the questions I usually think at times.
When I got to know more about what teaching is with the help of The Teaching Profession subject. The fact that teaching isn’t just about a sharing and transferring of knowledge to younger minds but also encompasses many responsibilities and roles in the community and society. Teaching profession really helped me to deepen my understanding towards teaching. Now, I know that teacher has multiple roles, responsibilities, and duties to perform. I am now able to identify the things a teacher should do and don't. Also, I learned a lot about the bases in education.
In my 3rd year pursuing this course, I realized that I really love teaching since it was dream since I was in high school even though I really wanted to take the secondary education. Yet, I'm here in elementary education. I really believe that everything happens for a reason and that I'm in the right path. I do really love what I'm doing. I love it when I share knowledge in front of the class and being listened to. When you are able to deliver and share ideas and concepts about certain subject matter.
As a future educator, I can really say that teaching would really give you a roller-coaster feelings. There are times you will be drained because of unending making of lesson plans and curriculum, making instructional materials is physically tiring. Making sure the strategies and competencies are aligned with the assessments and activities and suitable for the students to really complement their needs. Whenever I accomplish things that has something to do with teaching, it makes me happy. There is this feeling of fulfillment and achievement, and gratification.
If there is one thing I want to say to my younger self, it would be " Stop worrying, you are in the right path." To conceptualize it, I am where I belong. I found my mission in life and that is to teach and help-shape little minds in the near future. I will be one of those teachers who will leave an impact to someone's life. Instill values, help to practice discipline, and enhance the skills of the learners which would help them to be resilient and become a well-being.
