Cardiovascular Neuroscience
"Our mission is to understand what going wrong in the brain to result in the development of cardiovascular disease, particularly involving NMDA receptors in the central nervous systems (CNS) of the brain"
Our Objectives
Our focus is on how the brain controls blood pressure. We are interested in what goes wrong in the brain to result in the development of cardiovascular disease. We study peptides and their receptors in cardiovascular, central nervous system of the brain. Our current research aims to understand the central mechanisms driving the sympathetically mediated increases in blood pressure in models of Neurodegenerative diseases. By understanding the mechanisms driving the cardiovascular consequences of Neurodegenerative diseases, we aim to identify new therapeutic targets to treat sufferers and reduce disease burden.
Cardiology and neurology are both branches of medicine, but they focus on different systems and conditions within the body. Cardiology deals with the heart muscle, while neurology deals with the nervous system. Although they do have some connections and overlaps, they're very different systems
Cardiology
Focus: Cardiologists specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
Common Conditions: Heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
Neurology
Focus: Neurologists deal with disorders of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, RVLM, and peripheral nerves.
Common Conditions: Stroke, Epilepsy, Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Migraines, and Neurodegenerative diseases.
In essence, cardiology is centered on heart health, while neurology focuses on brain and nervous system disorders. Both specialties are crucial for overall health, as many conditions can affect both systems.
Regenerative Medicine
Our mission is to understand how stem cells, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and cell-derived secretomes and extracellular vesicles can promote tissue regeneration, repair damaged tissues, and restore normal biological function, particularly through mechanisms involving angiogenesis, inflammation, oxidative stress, and cellular regeneration.”
Our Objectives
Our focus is on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying tissue injury, degeneration, and regeneration. We investigate how stem cells, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), secretomes, and extracellular vesicles (exosomes) can promote tissue repair and functional recovery.
Our current research aims to elucidate the regenerative mechanisms of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and peripheral blood-derived stem cells (PBSCs) in hair follicle regeneration, skin rejuvenation, and musculoskeletal and joint repair. We are particularly interested in how these regenerative approaches influence angiogenesis, inflammation, oxidative stress, cellular proliferation, and tissue remodeling.
By understanding the mechanisms that regulate tissue regeneration, we aim to develop safe, effective, and evidence-based regenerative therapies for androgenetic alopecia, skin damage and aging, tissue injury, and joint-related disorders, ultimately improving tissue function and reducing disease burden.
