We lived at the Bascom Arms Apt 2643 S Bascom Campbell when Sean was born; moved to 2243 Pauline Drive SJ in 1966; Moved to 4451 Alex Dr SJ in October 1967.
Joyce worked as a bookkeeper for Jack Horton Drywall on Dry Creek Road. The office was in the home and Joyce would put Sean in the buggy and walk to work (Just across the street). Jack Horton's sister "Fran" would babysit Sean during the day. The picture of Sean in the baby carrier is taken in Joyce's office.
While Mike was on the ship, Joyce would take baby Sean to Grandma Mittie's every Saturday. Mittie would babysit Sean while Joyce went to the hairdressers!! Win Win for everyone.
Mike was in the Navy and serving "Active Duty" on the USS Markab in 1966-67
Above is a picture of Grandma Helen & Grandpa Art visiting us at the Pauline Apts. Nana and Uncle George also visited and Joyce & Sean loved the pool at the 4plex on Pauline Dr.
June 10, 1967 we welcomed "Maureen" into our family. Dad "Mike" was just discharged from Active Duty and he was home for her birth. In those days, dads were not allowed in the room where the baby was born--they had to wait in the "Waiting Room with all the expectant dads".
October 1967 we bought our home at 4451 Alex Drive SJ. Here are pictures of Sean & Maureen sharing the crib at the Pauline Drive Apartment. There is a picture of Maureen on the day she was baptized - her Godmother Gloria is holding her and Mike & Joyce & Nana are with her. We celebrated our 1st Halloween in our new home - Maureen the angel and Sean the cowboy. There is a picture from Easter 1968 and Christmas 1967. Looks like Sean got a tricycle.
The family story about Maureen's name. Daddy Mike loved his sister Gayle's middle name "Maureen" -- so he wanted to name his first daughter "Maureen" and mommy Joyce says that that agreement was in our wedding contract.
July 29, 1969 Colleen is born. We had to buy a bigger car so we purchased a 1969 Red Volkswagen Bus. In November 1969 we travelled to Temple City to visit Joyce's Grandparents "Nellie & John Scherer". Pictured in Black & White are Grandma Helen; Colleen; Joyce & Sean. In the bottom right picture is Christmas at 430 N. 17th Street with Grandma Mittie & Grandpa Jack. The Santa Claus that is hanging on the fireplace is now featured at our home on Alex Dr during Christmas.... Mike & Joyce referred to Mike's childhood home as the "430 Club".
September 23, 1971 Erin is born. Pictured on her Baptismal day with Mom Joyce holding her and Mike and Grandpa Jack. We had a pumpkin grow in our backyard that year and we painted a Happy Face on it. Erin loved to sit and "talk" to it. The bench pictured with Erin and the pumpkin was built by Mike so catechism students would have a place to sit in our home. Our church - St. Thomas of Canterbury - held catechism classes in the homes at that time. We have a continuing tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve at the Shannon's. Pictured around the tree are Maureen, Jackie Jr, Colleen, Erin & Sean.
