Heartn’Craft strives to reconstruct the authentic and heartfelt conversations youth have with seniors during face to face befriending sessions. This is activated through
(a) pen pal program, which is done through a nostalgic form of communication, allows youth and seniors exchange letters to get to know each other better!
Hello! This is the most memorable piece that I did with seniors at the nursing home! It was Valentine's Day and we wrapped food bouqets together! 🎨 It was of course not for them to eat because it is too high in sugar and bad stuff :< but they really enjoyed it! 😊😊
We told them that we are making these bouquets for the nurses who are always helping to take care of them. The auntie nodded and agreed that the nurses have been doing a lot for them! 😊 I wish that I could mail them a bouqet of flowers, but I drew some flowers on the letter to the senior that I am befriending through this pen pal project! I hope she likes it and draws one back for me! 😊😊
This was taken at the YOLDEN Arts sponge art sessions that I took part in last year. This was actually the last session of the series of befirending events and I was sad that after 10 sessions, we had to say goodbye to the seniors. It was tough to commit 10 weeks to this program, as I just began schooling in University.
However, talking to (Auntie) was something that I looked forward to every weekend and I made it a point to go down despite my schedule. It was sort of a moral obligation to go down, though it was also intrinsically motivated! ✌️
This was an art piece that I made with seniors during an up-cycling workshop 🤩It was actually pretty interesting as you might think that they would not be able to come up with such a beautiful piece of artwork that uses mixed media and decorations.
Actually she did most of the work and I only added the little ribbons at the side. ☀️☀️This shows the creativity and potential that these seniors have and I think the best part is that she gave it to me after the session, but we made one more matching one so that she can bring one home too! :)
I made this ninja star origami with a senior at CCSS Senior Activity Centre! It was part of a regular volunteering program there and the uncle that I meet at the centre enjoys folding craft. He like to challenge himself to fold new origami that he has not done before. Folding this made him pround as he said that it was amazing how the two pieces of origami can hold itself intact without tape!
I hope that during this Circult Breaker, he can continue to enjoy folding origami by watching tutorials online, but nothing beats having a volunteer beside to fold together. The human touch is what makes volunteering beautiful and meaningful. ⭐️
Celebrating festivities with seniors are my favourite! I like how the activities are curated to the seasons or common festivals that the seniors remember! It bring about a topic in which I can converse with them throughout the session. It keeps then recounting about their past and fond memories!
I think its great that we accompany the seniors during such festivals that make them happy. This paper dragon art was done with seniors during the Chinese New Year befriending session, I like how every design is different and allows them to express themselves creatively!
