Above is an analysis of COVID Cases reported by President Rita Cheng in her weekly emails (which most students use as their only indication of the severity of COVID-19 on campus) vs. COVID Cases reported by the NAU COVID Dashboard. What is most obvious is the recent jump in cases that were not expressed in the weekly emails. Rita Cheng reports 40-50 cases only changing slightly week to week, while the COVID Dashboard reports recent spikes. There is no indication for where the extra cases are coming from, or why there is such a recent discrepancy.
This next graph is a side by side analysis of cases reported in Flagstaff by Coconino County vs. cases reported by NAU. According to the NAU Dashboard, NAU works with the Coconino County to record results. With this in mind, COVID cases in Flagstaff should include all cases reported by NAU.
With this information, we can see that the spike in COVID-19 in September was directly caused by NAU reopening. When comparing the two from September 2nd to October 3rd, NAU is responsible for approximately 95% of all cases during that time period. During this same period there were around 15 deaths.
