Address: 1040 S. Beechfield Ave, Baltimore MD 21229
Email: christdeafchurch@gmail.com
Description: Christ Deaf Church Sunday Service starts at 12 noon and ends between 1-1:30 pm. Your arrival time will depend on where you will be serving. Typically, arriving by 11:30 am will be the best option. The current service learning opportunities are as follows:
Live streaming the service from the church computer: This requires technical knowledge (we will teach you how) and signing skills. People watching online through YouTube and Facebook will type comments and prayer requests that need to be signed to Rev. Lisa Holder during service for her to reply live. You will alternate between the slides and the live camera view for the online audience. You must pay full attention to the service and follow along with Rev. Lisa as she preaches the service.
Food prep and service: This requires working with the kitchen staff to prepare and serve meals. Meal prep happens during the church service and lunch is serviced when the church service has finished. This requires signing skills to communicate with the Deaf, Hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind church attendees and being able to fulfill their food/drink requests.
Special events: We partner with Deaf Shalom Zone to host game days and other holiday specific events. We would need help with set up and clean up as well as during the event, helping with the details of the event.

Role: ProBono Liaison Assistant (Student Support Crew)
Description: In this role, the student will work closely with the CORE DC Support Crew, including the CORE DC Coordinator(s). CORE is a six-month mentorship program focused on supporting our local community of interpreters. A key part of our mission involves giving back to the local Deaf community by requiring all Mentor-Mentee pairs to complete a minimum of two pro bono assignments during the program.
The ProBono Liaison Assistant will help identify local volunteer opportunities alongside our ProBono Liaison. They will work together to get these sent out to our cohort of Mentors and Mentees. This hands-on role offers valuable insight into scheduling and coordination, as well as experience in evaluating job suitability for emerging interpreters.
Student Support Crew members are also welcome to attend our monthly CORE DC workshops to build connections and gain additional professional development.
Skills Needed: The ideal candidate should have strong communication and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail. An interest in community engagement and a basic understanding of interpreting and Deaf culture are also important. The role requires reliability, professionalism, and the ability to communicate requests in a timely manner.
