Project: HI-DI Interpreting Team
Community Partners: Aspiring Deaf Interpreters; Bradley Christlieb MA, CDI, CCBC's Disability Support Services
CCBC Partners: Digital Media DIGM 112 & DIGM 152 students of Spring 2018
Description: Translation teams consisting of consecutive interpreting students & aspiring deaf interpreters collaborated on an authentic translation task activity over the span of 9-weeks. Using discourse mapping, each team co-constructed an ASL interpretation which was recorded for use on the CCBC Disability Support Services website.
Mutual Benefits: Aspiring deaf interpreters joined classroom lectures, and had small group sessions with CDI Bradley Christlieb to learn the interpreting process. Students learned from aspiring deaf interpreters how to collaborate on culturally relevant and grammatically correct interpretations. Both students and aspiring interpreters benefitted from real life, hands-on interpreting experience.
