The Blanket Exercise
Describe the activity as you remember it. What happened? Was it effective?
What surprised you about the history we simulated?
What kind of thoughts or emotions came up for you?
What stuck out for you during or about the simulation?
Have the numbered treaties signed between First Nations peoples and the Canadian government been honoured? Why or why not?
How would you feel if you entered in an agreement with someone, and they changed the rules of it later on? Can you think of any other examples of this happening in the world?
This simulation was meant to be from the perspective of Indigenous people in Canada. Often times our history books are written from the perspectives of settlers. In what ways are these perspectives different? How is this exercise different from the way that First Nations issues have been taught to you in the past?
What is a subject, related to Indigenous relations and reconciliation in Canada that you would like to research and learn more about?
