Research

The purpose of the research in your project is for you to become an educated citizen related to your topic of choice and to be able to demonstrate a genuine understanding of it. As an informed citizen you will be better equipped to engage in positive change.

How you choose to most effectively present your information is up to you (research paper, website, posters, infographics, video, artistic representation etc.). It is a combination of data collection, personal reflection and creativity. Your growth and learning should be demonstrated through:

1. Information / Knowledge

2. Analysis and critical commentary

3. Synthesis of key information

4. Relevant Action Plan and creativity

Here is a list of some the items that you should research and include in your presentation.

  • What are the consequences of this social injustice?
  • History / Change: How has the issue changed over time? How might this change in the future?
  • What are key statistics and trends related to your topic? (visuals work great to show this)
  • How has your issue (and the affected people) been influenced by influential institutions in society (race, media, gender, religion, capitalism, consumer society, military/war, government, education, social norms)
  • What are some biases that you will bring towards the project?
  • Who are key players / organizations / NGO’s? What do they stand for and what have they accomplished?
  • What current movements or groups are lacking?
  • What are examples of government action and / or inaction related to your issue? What are relevant laws and legislation that have helped or hindered the development of your movement?
  • What are the UN Sustainability Development Goals? Provide a general definition/ explanation.
  • What UN Sustainability Development Goal would action towards your injustice address? Be specific. Identify which goal(a) and why you believe your topic links or fits into this goal.
