Continuing with fossils. They will watch this video through the projector https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMzJ6Ibmlwk
Then this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTGzP2J43XI
The first and second video is where our shale came from. Please give a knife and razor blade safety talk.
Supplies for todays lesson are at the very bottom of the Earth Science Drawer
Please grab one of the florissant wooden trays for the class. Please remove the tools from the second one so there is enough for the class but not the shale. There is a blue lid bin in either that drawer or the drawer above that has razors and scrapers. I may have butter knives to the right of the bowling balls in the utensils drawers. Each student should be able to get 2 each but split them equally. Follow the directions of the instructor on the second video. They must have time for wiping tables. You can give them a bag from the bamboo tray bottom shelf of the cabinet to put their collections in. If they don’t have enough time use sharpies from the shelf to write on the rocks and put back in tray, then drawer.
3rd Hour
10:20-10:30ish BREAK
Then CLASS 10:30-11:23
Chemistry
3rd Hour Lesson
Watch this video about basic why do atoms bond https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOL-nUt_vfo
Then this one to get a further understanding of bonding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXT4OVM4vXI
Next we will see how molecules arrange themselves to form crystals in the video below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Nlnj0gBJhk
With the rest of class time I would like them to learn more about elements, compounds and the periodic table. Please separate into groups of 2. They may have 1 computer per group. Tell them to go to my teacher website then click “Chem Experiments” at the top there is a button that says ptable. I want them to explore this site. First, I want them to click wide to show how the periodic table actually looks. The Must accomplish learning about 5 elements under “properties” view 5 more elements under “Isotopes.” With remainder of class time I would like them to play around with the “compounds” section. They must shut down and plug in the computers before they leave. Please tell them we will do our copper sulfate experiment next week. Wear closed toed shoes and clothes that are allowed to be stained in case of accidents. (This will be on teacher website.
4th Hour
11:25-12:20
Jr. Entrepreneurs
4th Hour Lesson Plan
This class is working on making their own products to sell at a craft show-like event. Most of their supplies have arrived, please check the amazon link document for anything in the box and who it belongs to.
They may work on creating their products.
All messes must be cleaned up by the end of the period or they need to stay at the beginning of lunch to get it cleaned up.
Make sure all posters are finished, what’s required is posted in the classroom.
If they cannot work on their products at the moment, have them find something they can do (ex. Calculating cost from profit from the bought materials)
They may not sit and do nothing. If they truly cannot move forward have them get a computer and go to this link https://www.simcompanies.com/create/
It’s a business simulator
5th Hour
1:05-1:57
Astronomy
5th Hour Lesson Plan
Did they finish this -> ? They need to complete the solar system sort page and their solar system round model. Their models are in a blue bin in my room by my desk and the answer key is in the second drawer next to my desk. Their solar system model must have labels. Sharpies are on the shelf by my desk.
On teacher website click on Secrets of The Universe and watch Episode 4
Have them write 5 things they learned and 2-3 things they already knew.
If finished. Split into groups. Each group gets a computer and then assign them each a planet to research. Give each group a poster paper from the paper roll by the door and light switch. They must explain the appearance, write the name of the planet (is there a reason for the name?), states of matter present, make a drawing, location from the sun, if there are any moons or rings, and come up with something that sets their planet as different from the other planets. You can avoid Earth if you have too many planets or assign two planets per group or have groups of two. I do want all of the planets to be covered (except earth if it doesn’t math out). Each poster must contain names of group members. They may NOT use sharpie, only the markers or pencils at the tables. They then will have to present their planet to the other students. They may not have enough time to do this as I want them to have a page in their notebook that they write each presentation down in their notebook, they must include their own. If there is not enough time place the posters next to the cutting mat to the left of the cabinet between the dresser.

Robotics all are started on Artec blocks except a few 2+ Year students
Earth Science Learned Potassium(K) Feldspar Hardness 6 Density 2.56 cm3 Cleavage is prismatic meaning at 90 degree angles, it's often used as concrete aggregate (pebbles or smaller in concrete mixture) and also found in a lot of felsic igneous rocks. We also learned what we labeled as gyspum, which we originally were told was quartz, was actually CALCITE! How did we figure this out? It reacts with acid. This makes sense because we couldn't really scratch it with our fingernail's either. New Gypsum was given. Calcite is hardness 3, density 2.71cm3, cleavage is on 3 unique planes at 90 degree angles, and is used as the abrasive (gritty) part of toothpaste among many other things.
Chemistry we continued the study on isotopes and Mon and Tues had make up cotton candy party.
Jr Ent we made cotton candy and started brainstorming for our next sale
Astronomy we learned about moon phases.
Robotics We are all on different things but after students finish Cue, we will be starting Artec Block Building

Earth Sci Notes
Foliated Definition:
Foliation forms when pressure squeezes the flat or elongate minerals within a rock so they become aligned. These rocks develop a platy or sheet-like structure that reflects the direction that pressure was applied.
Robotics if they didn't get their free time got free time with accessories. Or continued on with coding in Dash or Cue. Or working on their website.
Earth Science Took notes about Sedimentary rocks and moved on to metamorphic rocks. Learned new word Foliated
Chemistry Finished our Epsom Salt Crystal experiment or it became homework. Glued in the Scientific Method handout. Next week we make cotton candy
Jr Ent We put our material needs here, so I can order them or bring them
Met/Ast We finished our cloud guide page with cirrus labeled in the top right corner and neatly represented each cloud with cotton. Then we started the final reading about clouds.
Monday and Tuesday I'll be absent. I got the cold going around. Please be helpful and kind for the sub.
Jr. Ent add your amazon links here please.
Under my desk on the right bottom drawer is a smiley face emoji binder set that on the student table to the left of my desk. Students should be following the order in the binder. They also need to be doing the tasks listed on each of the pages. Today I need a list of materials I need to buy for them to make their products. Students making Slime I already have the ingredients. Please state that I will try to get the exact ones they choose but don't be mad if it's a slightly different variation. I will have a Google doc they can add their materials to on my teacher page. On Amazon hover over the image and a share button will pop up that is what you are writing under Amazon link in the document. Once this is done they can continue on with the unit pages. All pages taken must become full attached to notebook by glue or tape.
Robotics Today they are allowed to free play with apps go, path, wonder, or continue in Blockly for Dash. Or cue free play in cue app. A couple students may be working on a computer. They are Second/third year Robotics students. They are building a personal website resume. The website must utilize different pages, be aesthetically appealing, and give more information than you'd find on a resume about themselves. If they finish they are to click on other students sites and on a paper nicely critique their site. Write the name of the site, your, name, and anything you liked or think should change.
Earth Sci Each student gets one conglomerate rock write name and number on the page then go to rock identification table. Take notes on this rock. All materials are in same spot as last week so let them get their magnificent glass, magnet, and periwinkle tray with vinegar in pipette. Remind you only need 2 drops of vinegar for a test and listen and watch for a reaction. There is extra vinegar in the beaker on top of Chem cabinet in a pencil cubby. After they finish conglomerate they put the 1 rock in their bag. Now announce this next one you don't get to keep quite yet so skip vinegar test on it. In the earth science drawer under the rock kit complete box there is a bag of shale. Hand 1 to each student. These you will collect back and put back for another lesson in the future. They must do the same thing as conglomerate but it doesn't have a number. It's name is shale. Fill out the rock identification chart. If they need another chart, they are in the Astronomy and meteorology drawer. Collect them back once done or out of time. Have the kits put back into their drawer and tables wiped off.
Chemistry Last week we started the Epsom Salt Crystal Experiment. First open their notebook and read through the entire printed sheet for the experiment, theres more on my desk if needed. They can read as a table voluntarily aloud or you read. They may get their Experiment but can't take it home because I want to see their results. They wrote in their notebooks. They do however need to collect data on their results. It's been a week what's it look like? I added a couple seed crystals on top because I wasn't seeing growth on the sponge, what's that spot look like? How does it's current look differ from when you started the experiment? Then analyze data, make sense of your data in terms of what you were testing from your hypothesis. You can measure the crystals with a ruler. We need to notate that they were placed in a sunny location to grow larger crystals over a week into our procedure. Was the growth what you expected? Why do you think it was or was not what you expected? Then finally write your conclusion. Restate your hypothesis without the words right, wrong, correct, or incorrect. Instead it should look like "my data supported my hypothesis of……..because……." Or didn't support. Then what did you learn during this experiment. Lastly, what would you do differently if you were to do it again. If there is any leftover time. I want them to go back through their notes and find elements we've worked on in the past. Neutrons are calculated by the atomic mass subtracting the atomic number. Oxygen has 8 protons, atomic number 8 and an atomic mass of 16. 16-8=8 neutrons. Do this on a new page for multiple elements. Don't forgot to write the atomic symbol, number, weight/mass, protons, and now neutrons. Do this till class ends. Have them put their experiments back so that I can see them.
Ast/Met
Find Monday met/Astronomy and give a 10 for everyone that did their cloud homework. Make sure it's the homework not the one we did in class meaning it should have answers for clouds.
Then have them turn to the cloud guide page. They are trying to mimick clouds looks by using cotton balls. It shouldn't look like they just glued in cotton balls. They must also add in cirrus to the guide where it belongs, check their notes, and the tiny puffs need cotton too. Once this page is complete. Grab the earth science game from the cabinet door and play that with them. Give them enough time to clean. I don't want any glue or cotton on table or floors. And don't glue notebook shut by adding too much glue.
Robotics some students are finishing dash and moving onto Cue.
Earth Sci we identified some rocks and started building our rock kits. First two rocks were Sandstone and Fossiliferous Limestone.
Chemistry we added MgSO4 to compounds list of compounds, wrote it's elements and how many of each Mg+S+O+O+O+O, then named it with common name and compound name. Then we started Epsom salt crystal growing.
Jr Ent. had pick your partners and What will we sell papers. Learned about SKU's. Our sale will be week of November 27th, unless we need one more week.
Met/Ast We investigated the sky on a cloud chart. along with the current weather for 1:20pm. Including barometric pressure. Homework was assigned to do this page again a second time on a day that isn't plain blue sky with no clouds. Bring notebook back to next class if you took it home.

Mrs. Sherer! The moon wasn't blue. I'm sorry I lied but did it make you more curious? Ask the quest well then why's it called blue moon. The term blue moon refers to the moon having a second full moon phase in the same month. It doesn't happen very often. In fact! Many many years ago before we had time/date as we know it today, they used to track what day it is by the moon phase because the moon goes through a full cycle in about 1 months time. They also used the sun to tell time.
A link to the expectations so you can read them can be found here
Homework was to check the website page to parents and to learn how to check the website by doing so. Met needs 2L bottles in the next few weeks
Robotics went over expectations and rules for the class and technology and got to know each other, some started on Dash robot
