I observed that asking questions during classes, both by the teacher and the students, was consistently implemented in the class. This was systematic and truly necessary not only in a Mathematics class but in all classes in order for the teacher to assess students' learning as well as to determine the effectiveness of the teaching strategy. Furthermore, group activities/work are everyday routines that promote collaboration among students. Thus, these are some of the demands of a progressive class.
There are some students who appear being left out and “different” in such a way that they don’t have anyone beside them nor friends to lean on. However, their classmates, especially those who are friendly and sociable, they approach these kinds of students and allow them to join their groups, especially during collaborative activities in class where they help each other, and learn from each other. Student-centeredness is really the current most effective approach in teaching. I observed different a lot of challenges such as language barrier (solved by including Bahasa translations in Instructional Materials / Presentations), lack of basic knowledge prior to the lesson (solved by giving a review through the warm-up activities), and many more.
The teacher must provide numerous collaborative activities that allow everyone to participate and enable those who are left out and "different" students to group with other students to get to know each other and gain knowledge from one another in order to eliminate divisions within the class. Moreover, this is to ensure that no one is left behind regardless of gender, culture, religion, backgrounds, status, and so on. Furthermore, the teacher must promote equality of treatment within the classroom while avoiding anything that could lead to favoritism.
The teacher must be able to fully understand and assess sociocultural norms and discriminations in order to recognize students' various rights, roles, and obligations, such as providing gender and culture-sensitive activities. In this manner, no one will be insulted by your conduct, which could lead to ineffective learning. Furthermore, we can use examples from many cultures and incorporate them in our lessons to help students recognize and experience a feeling of being a part of the school environment.
"To flourish in the face of diversity, we as teachers must have a great deal of patience, understanding, and, most importantly, unconditional LOVE for our students." Thank you so much, SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan. Thank you so much, Universitas Islam Indonesia. I shall be eternally grateful for your contribution to my development as a teacher and as a learner. May God bless you all. TO GOD BE THE HIGHEST GLORY."
