Domincan School Manila
Domincan School Manila is the school I used for my teaching practice during the SEA-Teacher program. Domincan School Manila is a private Catholic school that founded in 1958 and run by the Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. This school is one of the schools that has a mission and vision about respecting the dignity of each person through their actions of inclusivity, sensitivity, justice, compassion, and love. A commitment is used to practices of long-life learning. Domincan School Manila has four pillars of Dominican Life, like prayer, study, community, and mission/service.
This school also has a Dominican Core Values, and they called it TORCH. The meaning of Dominican Core Values are
Truth (veritas)
Orderliness (ordo)
Reflection (contemplata)
Compassion (caritas)
Honor (dignitas).
They also has the Domincan Mottoes, like
Veritas (Truth): contemplare et contemplata aliis
Treadere: to contemplate and to share with others the fruit of contemplation
Laudare, Benedicere, Praedicare: to praise, to bless, to preach
Dominican School Manila has an excellent academic support system, starting from the teaching staff, adequate school facilities, and excellent school infrastructure. It is also supported by students who are active, disciplined, and respectful of each other.
Teaching System
The Kindergarten learning process runs for 3 hours, with a variety of activities. Learning will begin with prayer and then circle time, where all students are invited to gather energy before starting learning by singing and dancing together. After circle time, the teacher will explain the learning material of the day, with some activities determined together with the students. Once finished, they have time to eat their lunch brought from home. They also have quiet time or sleeping time, where all students are asked to be quiet and sleep while waiting for the angelus prayer. After the angelus prayer, they will continue learning again until they go home.
