After I finished observing the class, I asked my teacher how she prepared her lesson plans. She explained that in planning her lessons, she gathers various learning materials from different sources, studies them thoroughly, and summarizes the key points before structuring them into a comprehensive lesson for her students.
She always strives to find real-world examples related to the topics she teaches, making it easier for students to understand the concepts. Additionally, she ensures that the materials are engaging and relevant, encouraging active participation and deeper comprehension among her students.
When I was observing in my co-operating teacher’s class, I realized that she was implementing student-centered learning, where the learning process follows these steps. First, she explains about the material she will teach. Secondly, she gives examples to students. And after that, she gives question to students and students will answer the question. I observed my teacher employing teaching techniques, including the demonstration method, the question-and-answer approach as part of her teaching methodology.
In teaching, my teacher begins the class with a prayer, followed by taking student attendance. After that, she provides an introduction by reviewing the previous lesson and connecting it to the topic to be studied that day.
During the lesson, she always pays close attention to her students, ensuring they remain engaged. At the end of her explanation, she asks the students if they understand the material and encourages them to ask questions if anything is unclear. If a student needs further clarification, she explains it in detail until they grasp the concept.
After the explanation, she gives students practice problems, guiding and assisting them throughout the process. Once they finish, they bring their work to her for checking. If their answers are incorrect, she does not give them the correct answer directly but instead guides them to correct their mistakes. If their answers are correct, they receive additional points as a reward.
After completing each topic, students are required to take an exam on that particular topic. These exams are conducted monthly, following the completion of the respective topics. Once all topics have been covered, students must take a final exam to assess their overall understanding.
In addition to exams, assessments also include homework and assignments, which contribute to students' overall grades. These tasks help reinforce learning, encourage independent study, and provide a more comprehensive evaluation of students' progress.
