14 fully configured courts (all nets and lines provided) [Jump to SMB Permits]
5 courts with posts (bring your own net and lines) [No Permits Issued]
16 courts with posts (bring your own net and lines) [Jump to OB Permits]
Proposed placement of wooden 4x4 posts for non-summer use. We propose adding these courts at the end of the summer each year and removing / storing the posts during peak summer so that non-volleyball beach users can enjoy beach activities and over-the-line tournaments in July.
From the week after Labor Day through week before Memorial Day each year.
For 2024-2025, this would be September 14, 2024 through May 17, 2025.
Our proposal is to place 16 courts (Poles only, bring your own net and lines).
Outside of the semi-permanent date range, the area can be used for pop-up day use and non-volleyball activities as first-come first-serve area. [Jump to OB Semi-Permanent Post Permits]
All weeks excluding July each year.
For 2024-2025, this would be August 3, 2024 through June 30, 2025.
Our proposal is to place 20 courts (Poles only, bring your own net and lines).
This proposal would require weekly sand maintenance because the sand at Fiesta Island settles and needs to be raked in order to remain playable week after week.
Pop-up Only Locations
The beach area at Mariner's Point should accommodate 20 popup / single day nets. All nets and equipment should be removed each night to allow for the space to be used for other non-volleyball activities, such as Over-the-line tournaments. [Jump to Mariner's Point Permits]
The nearly one mile stretch of beach between SMB and Belmont Park allows dozens of volleyball nets to be set up for day-use and removed each night. These pop-up nets must comply with emergency corridors along West side (at least 50 yards from water on high tide). No groups over 50 people. [No Permits Issued]
As the primary public location for recreational open play, South Mission Beach should have public use as the priority with infrequent organized events.
We propose the nets only be permitted as an entire venue for a main event / tournament.
Jan - May: Last weekend Saturday available for tournament
Jun: One Saturday available for tournament / event (typically around June 15)
Jul: One Saturday available for tournament / event (typically around July 6)

Ocean Beach posts should serve as primary location for weekday afternoon organizations relying on beach courts such as schools.
August through November and February through May
8 of 16 sets of posts will be made available to permit holders weekday afternoons (Monday through Friday) from 2pm through sunset.
Sep - Mar: Second weekend Saturday available for tournament
Apr - Aug: 50% of weekend days (Saturday and Sunday) available for tournaments and 50% of weekend days reserved for public use.
Ocean Beach semi-permanent posts should serve as additional primary location for weekday afternoon organizations relying on beach courts such as schools. When combined with permanent post permits, this allows for 24 nets to be used by schools when they need them most.
August through May
16 of 16 sets of posts will be made available to permit holders weekday afternoons (Monday through Friday) from 2pm through sunset.
Sep - May: Every weekend Saturday and Sunday available for tournament / league play
Fiesta Island semi-permanent posts should serve as additional location for weekday afternoon organizations relying on beach courts such as schools and for-profit leagues. This serves as an expandable overflow resource to address the growth needs of volleyball as a sport.
August through June
20 of 20 sets of posts will be made available to permit holders weekday afternoons (Monday through Friday) from 2pm through sunset.
August through June: Every weekend Saturday and Sunday available for tournament / league play
Mariner's Point area should serve as additional location for weekday afternoon organizations relying on sand to set up their own courts such as schools and for-profit clinics and leagues. As a venue for not only volleyball but also other events such as over-the-line, running competitions, and celebrations, the availability calendar to reserve this space should be published to the broader public interested in hosting this venue, and properly communicated well in advance of long-term recurring reservations being granted.
For volleyball, beach space for 20 courts will be made available to permit holders.
Available weekday afternoons (Monday through Friday) from 2pm through sunset.
Available every weekend both Saturday and Sunday for tournament / league play / clinics.
