In order to offer a high-quality program and maintain compliance with the NBHWC's guidelines, we ask that students adhere to the following program requirements:
There are three hours of live synchronous classes per week for two 16-week semesters. These courses are conducted via Zoom and are typically offered on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening. The class sessions are designed to be sequential, and attendance/participation is required for the duration of the class.
In order to receive a certificate and become eligible to sit for the NBHWC board exam, students must plan to attend all live classes. Students are allowed one missed class per semester. Students who miss more than one class will be dropped, withdrawn from, or fail the course.
Students must pass all program classes with a C or better to earn their certificate. Courses cannot be taken for a pass/no pass grade.
Students should have strong WiFi access for video conferencing and virtual coaching sessions.
We ask that students comply with the San Diego Community College District's Board Policy 5500 regarding student rights and responsibilities the NBHWC's Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics.
Our health and wellness coach training program is taught in English, and all Practical Skills Assessment coaching sessions are conducted and evaluated in English. For those who want instruction and practice coaching in Spanish, please check out Open Source Wellness' Health Coaching Training.
Students will be asked to complete virtual health and wellness coaching sessions with classmates throughout the duration of the program. In accordance with the NBHWC program approval guidelines, students will submit three recorded coaching sessions to their instructor for evaluation and grading and receive three individualized feedback sessions. Coaching recordings will be conducted via Pronto, an application within Canvas.
Our program is an educational training program designed to provide high-quality instruction and skill development. As part of the program, students are required to complete three recorded coaching sessions that are shared with the instructor to be evaluated for a grade and individualized feedback. While our program and platforms are fully compliant with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of student educational records, they are not necessarily compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). As such, we encourage students to use their own discretion when volunteering any personal health information or sensitive medical data during the course of the program.
Students who do not complete the program in its entirety nor adhere to The San Diego Mesa College Health and Wellness Certificate Program guidelines and District policy will fail to earn the credits necessary to be awarded a certificate.
