Call volume for individual units and station changes with the make-up of a district. Populations can grow and shrink, and their average ages can change. Trends in the neighborhoods (tourists attractions, business districts, residential neighborhoods, hospitals, etc.) can change the demands placed upon first responders.
Increases and decreases in Call Volume raise two major questions to the personnel of the Fire Department, City Administrator and the Citizens. Those two questions are, how does changing Call Volume affect the services being provided to a community, and what does changing Call Volume mean to the cost/benefit analysis of running a fire department?
