Cuba requires all international visitors to maintain medical insurance coverage while in the country.
For travelers departing from the United States, the required Cuban medical insurance is automatically included in the cost of the airline ticket and becomes effective upon arrival in Cuba. This coverage satisfies Cuba's legal entry requirement.
Travelers departing from countries other than the United States are responsible for obtaining medical insurance that meets Cuban entry requirements prior to travel.
Please note that this required medical coverage is separate from optional travel protection insurance. We strongly recommend that all participants purchase supplemental travel insurance that includes trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage protection, and emergency evacuation coverage.
OFAC-Compliant | Legally Authorized Travel to Cuba
This program is designed and operated in accordance with applicable U.S. regulations governing authorized travel to Cuba.
Limited Enrollment
To maintain a highly interactive and personalized experience, participation is limited and spaces will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of deposit.
Passport Requirements
Participants must possess a passport valid for at least six months beyond the completion of the program.
Minimum Enrollment Requirement
Program operation is contingent upon meeting minimum enrollment requirements. In the unlikely event minimum enrollment is not achieved 90-days prior to program start date, participants will be notified promptly and all program payments will be refunded in full.
Rates are per person and are not based on room occupancy.
Operational and Financial Context
Due to the lack of standard fiscal transfer mechanisms between the United States and Cuba, refunds are inherently limited. Funds transfers are time-intensive, and Son Dos Alas’ institutional partners and service providers in Cuba begin securing program components between 120 and 90 days prior to program start.
Upon receipt of participant deposits and passport information, Son Dos Alas initiates legally binding contractual obligations and advance payments to Cuban vendors and hosts in reliance on the participant’s certification of eligibility under the applicable OFAC general license.
Participant-Initiated Cancellations
Up to 90 days prior to program start date
Son Dos Alas will refund 50% of the deposit paid.
Any costs already incurred or allocated (including, but not limited to, visa processing fees or lodging deposits) are non-refundable.
Within 90 days of program start date (when final payments are due)
No refunds can be issued.
However, up to 50% of the total amount paid, less any non-recoverable or allocated expenses, may be applied as a non-transferable credit toward future Son Dos Alas travel to Cuba within the following calendar year, subject to availability and applicable pricing at the time of rebooking.
Future travel credits with Son Dos Alas are non-transferable
Force Majeure
In the event that a program must be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control—including, but not limited to, severe weather events, changes to U.S. Treasury OFAC regulations affecting lawful travel to Cuba, national unrest, public health emergencies, or other force majeure events—Son Dos Alas will, on a case-by-case basis:
Offer alternative program dates consistent with lawful travel authorization, or
Issue refunds less any non-recoverable or allocated expenses, including visa fees, lodging deposits, or services already contracted or rendered pursuant to authorized OFAC activity.
General Conditions
All refunds and credits are processed in accordance with U.S. law, OFAC regulations, and applicable financial compliance requirements.
Funds paid are committed to licensed educational or professional activities in Cuba.
Son Dos Alas reserves the right to require written documentation for cancellation requests.
This policy applies uniformly to all participants.
Submission of payment constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of this cancellation and refund policy.
