Fairly New to Scratch?
Follow the Guided Online Tutorials for an animation or game OR Remix a Starter Project:
- Click the Create button on Scratch and turn on Tips by clicking the question mark on the right-hand side of the script area. A fun starting point is Animate Your Name.
- Scratch Starter Projects (Open, Click See Inside, and then Remix).
- Things to Try - Online tutorials, along with Scratch cards and teacher guides. Also check out ways to make curricular connections with these.
Create an All About Me project (beyond the 5 Random Facts in the Scratch Starter Projects):
- Student Examples - Some of these use speech bubbles to talk and some use actual recorded voice because Scratch supports that as well.
Create a Simple Game:
- There are some of these in the Scratch Starter Projects (Open, Click See Inside, and then Remix).
- If you don't want to remix, a maze game is a simple way to start moving either with arrow keys or by following the mouse. I have created a video series that my students use if they need help:
- Backgrounds & Sprites - if you are looking for the starter maze graphics, you can find them at: Sky Maze, Forest Maze, Space Maze, Snow Maze.
- Move Sprite Through Maze
- Collisions
- Reaching the Goal
