Makey Makey

Makey Makey is an invention kit that turns everyday objects into controllers for a computer. Students can create a project in Scratch that uses the arrow keys to do something and attach a Makey Makey and use bananas or play-dough or other everyday objects to run the project.

Pair up, open your Makey Makey kit, and use this guide to get your Makey Makey hooked up to your computer and make sure it's working.

Check out Makey Makey Labz for some awesome ideas of things you can do with the Makey Makey. If you're looking for something simple to start:

    • Did you create a project earlier that used the arrow keys? Use the Makey Makey to control that!
    • Draw yourself an image that you make interactive with a Scratch project.
    • Make piano keys with craft sticks and tinfoil and create a piano in Scratch or you could use the one here. See a student playing their Makey Makey craft sticks piano.
    • Start with one of these Makey Makey ideas and create a controller for it.

Using Your Webcam & Microphone

If you have a webcam on your device, you can use it in Scratch projects. Check out some examples:

You can also use your microphone and your Scratch project can sense how loud you are. Check out this studio with sensing projects for some examples.
