It is often repeated that Canada is a nation forged by war. Of course, in the 20th Century, armed conflict has seldom taken place within the nation's borders - instead taking place in other continents, sometimes at the behest of other nations. This is something that can clearly be seen in contemporary media. While most newspaper clippings and excerpts are about life in Ottawa (and all that that entails), the Wars dominated the backdrop. On one page, you would have discussions about zoning laws, or about a women's club, while the next you would have stories about Ottawa men heading off to war - or coming back. In terms of pure numbers, the representation of such articles within the scrapbooks is low - but consistent, never letting you forget that it exists.
