Construction

1968-1969

Construction began on the Scotland site in September of 1968. The land was almost completely cleared of all houses and trees (1960s-era developers rarely retained trees), and by November, several of the new structures had been framed out and the mansard roofing had shingles.  Alan Siegel documented the project over the course of eight months, taking photographs at the site in September, October, November,  and March. The buildings were finished by spring, and curbs, gutters, driveways and paved roads went in. Following FHA approval of the finished development, the first residents were able to move in starting in August of 1969.
