LTLC Professional Development Opportunities

The Learning to Teach and Lead Continuum (LTLC) provides a multitude of professional learning opportunities for candidates and mentors/coaches (Administrator and Teacher Induction) at the county level. Below you will find links to a sampling of the county provided opportunities. Some county events are offered at no charge to SCOE Induction Program candidates. Additionally, candidates may choose to (and are encouraged to) pursue their professional learning through district or personal avenues (e.g. district/site based professional development focused on local initiatives, book study, Professional Learning Communities) so that the work they are doing in induction is truly a reflection of their context and is job embedded.

LTLC Offerings: SCOE Events Website Flyers: 8.1.18 9.21.18 10.26.18 12.14.18 1.25.19 3.22.19 5.10.19

Assurances: The LTLC program staff ensures that the time commitment and program requirements are being met via Memorandums of Understanding (district/candidate/mentor/coach), review of mentor/coach logs, communication with district level stakeholders, review of IIPs (Administrator Induction - Sections 3 & 4), and individualized advice and assistance.

Teacher Induction:

District MOU: "ensuring dedicated time for regular mentor and candidate interactions; no less than 1 hour per week on average of individualized support/mentoring as required by program standards."

Candidate MOU: " Meet regularly with your mentor (one hour per week on average) to work on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), your curriculum, and other teacher support issues while maintaining a positive, productive and thoughtful relationship."

Mentor MOU: "Meet regularly with each candidate (one hour per week on average) to work on the Individual Learning Plan (ILP), curriculum, and other teacher support issues (just in time support) while maintaining a confidential, positive, productive and thoughtful relationship."

Professional learning opportunities are not required for teacher induction, however they are encouraged. The encouragement allows for candidates to be flexible in how they learn and grow under their Individual Learning Plan (ILP) goal. Here is a list of some (but not all) professional learning opportunities our candidates and mentors have taken advantage of over the past year:

  • Grade-Alike
  • Coaching Network
  • Content area workshops
  • PBIS training
  • MathCON
  • California Induction Conference
  • Book study
  • Lesson study
  • Online courses (MOOCs - Massive Online Open Courses)
  • Universal Design for Learning
  • District level initiative professional development
  • District/Site Level Professional Learning Communities

Administrator Induction:

District MOU: "provide the Candidates access to Program events and support for completion of the Program requirements"

Candidate MOU: "create, revise as needed, and complete an Individualized Induction Plan (IIP) and assemble evidence in the form of an e-Portfolio with the support of my Lead Coach", "monthly meetings/contacts with Lead Coach (minimum 4 hours per month)", "in addition to CPSEL activities, I will spend a minimum of 20 hours per year in CPSEL Focus Plan related professional development activities"

Coach MOU: "assist my Candidate(s) by capturing electronically their reflections of growth toward CPSEL developmental objectives; sign off on each CPSEL when successfully completed; and assist in the completion of the e-Portfolio", "when I sign off on CPSEL verification of completion; that I must verify a minimum level of Candidate competence as evidenced by placement on the Description of Practice."

Professional learning opportunities are required for candidates as a non-negotiable part of their Individual Induction Plan (IIP). In their Initial Plan of the IIP, completed in early fall, candidates anticipate the professional learning in which they will engage. In the Review/Revise section of the IIP, completed in early spring, changes to that professional learning plan may be noted. In the Reflections on the Learning and Verification sections of the IIP, completed in late spring, candidates provide assurance of the professional learning in which they engaged and coaches verify that element.
