September Reader’s Challenge: Hispanic Voices Teacher Activity Guide
These quick activities are designed to help you bring Hispanic Voices into your classroom while supporting this month’s Reader’s Challenge.
Quote Reflection: Display a quote from a Hispanic author (provided by the library). Ask students to copy it into their notebook and write 2–3 sentences about what it means to them. Optional: share responses as a class.
Map Connections: Use a classroom/world map. Each time a student reads a Hispanic Voices book, mark the author’s or story’s country of origin with a sticky note. Build a visual representation of diverse voices throughout the month.
Gallery Walk: Print or project 6–8 book covers with short blurbs (library will provide). Students walk around, read the blurbs, and jot down 2 books that interest them. Great lead-in before library visits.
Creative Connection Prompt: "Write a short journal entry, poem, or dialogue inspired by a theme in your book (family, identity, courage, or migration).” Share in pairs or small groups.
