Using technology to bring in transformative learning in the classroom

Teaching through a holistic approach impacts how technology is purposefully integrated to create meaningful learning experiences for students. Technology should not be used simply as an add-on to in the learning environment but should serve a purposeful with an intention to enhance the learning experience of students.

• Using the SAMR model educators can be used to reflect upon how the technology is being integrated into their instruction.

• The SAMR model has 4 levels of integrating technology:

1. Substitution

2. Augmentation

3. Modification

4. Redefinition

Modification (Level 3) and Redefinition ( Level 4) is the Transformative Stage. This allows students to incorporate technology in a meaningful way to create authentic learning experiences. Where students develop and enhance their critical thinking, creativity and analyzing skills.
